“It is true that a player can bring his score down to what is considered good golf without instruction, but he never will be able to fully enjoy the game until he has developed a certain amount of consistency.”

“The player who attempts to learn the game without instruction forms incorrect habits which are a handicap to satisfactory headway. This type of golfer prides himself on the fact that he is self-taught, little realizing that he is falling into errors that will be hard to correct when, and if, he has to see a competent instructor.”

“To teach people how to play the game of golf as well as possible is my job – and that of all professionals – but since there are golfers who do not have the time or the means to obtain individual instruction I will present, in as few words as possible, the fundamentals of golf, and will try to impress upon the golfer the simplest reasons why this or that should be done to acquire a stroke that will give the player a certain degree of satisfaction, and start him on the correct path”.

The above are a few quotes from the book “How To Play Golf by Sam Snead” published in 1946. Sam Snead breaks down the fundamentals of a proper golf swing in less than 200 pages. I personally found this book informative and an easy read. It is also a great reference book to keep in your golf library. I am glad I found this gem at a used book store!!!
